SIXTY-FOUR percent of South Africans have had unprotected sex without knowing their partner's sexual history, according to the Durex global sex survey.
The survey, conducted online, found that 10 percent of South Africans have had unprotected sex even when they thought they may have had a sexually transmitted infection of HIV/Aids.
The survey also found that 59 percent of South Africans have had sex with a stranger and 30 percent of men admit to having had an affair, compared with 20 percent of women.
South Africans have sex about 109 times a year - above the global average of 103. Greece, tops the list at 138 and Japan is the lowest at 45 times a year.
Favourite places for sex outside the bedroom are: the car, (74 percent), toilets (47 percent), garden (46 percent) parties (44 percent), nightclubs (37 percent) and aeroplanes (four percent).
Asians still have the least sex, with Thais making love 97 times a year, China 96, Taiwan 88, Vietnam 87, Malaysia 83, Hong Kong 78, Indonesia 77, India 75, Singapore 73.
Globally, people have had an average of nine sexual partners, with men having more partners than women: 10,2 for men, compared with 6,9 for women.
The survey found that nearly half of all adults are satisfied with their sex lives although men are the least satisfied with their frequency of sex. Forty-one percent of men want more sex, and 29 percent of women.
Thirteen percent of people have had sex at work, with one in 10 saying they have had sex at school. More than eight in 10 Italians, or 82 percent, have had sex in the car, while Australians top the league for having sex in the park at 54 percent.
Americans and Canadians lead the way for favouring sex in front of a camera (both 21 percent) while 22 percent of Turks have indulged in sex at school.
