Op-Ed: Thai Zoo resorts to ‘artificial’ methods to grow panda population Looks l... Panda Porn Fails to Teach an Old Panda

Looks like any cuddly, little baby Pandas seen at the Chiang Mai Zoo in Thailand in the near future will be born not from normal mating rituals but from medical ingenuity. Or at least that’s what Thai zoo officials are now hoping.

, the lone male panda at the Chiang Mai Zoo, failed to engage in mating relations with his partner, , despite seemingly desperate attempts to encourage his libido by zoo authorities, which included everything from holding a mock wedding to showing the reluctant panda videos of other pandas having sex. Giving up on traditional methods of panda conception, this week, Thai zoo officials opted to leave the sexually reticent Chuang Chuang in peace and simply inseminate Lin Hui with his sperm.

Speaking about the lack of sexual chemistry between the two pandas, who were rented from China in 2003 for a 10-year period, , director general of Thai Zoo Organization of Thailand told AP, "He just didn't want to mate. He was looking at her as a friend."

"We saw that Chuang Chuang wasn't mating with the female," Dunmui ontinued. "If we don't do artificial insemination, then maybe we couldn't have a baby this year. We think the artificial insemination is the best option."

Now let me see… A male panda not turned on by his female companion even with the aid of porn. I think I’ve heard this story told before with a human face. Heck, I think I might have lived it.

But before anyone jumps to any unfair conclusions about Chuang Chuang, it must be noted that giant pandas reportedly have a very low fertility rate, which probably explains why the panda is one of the world's rarest animals.
